Welcome to Southern Sun Consulting, where we know that what makes us special is our team of incredible go-getters. On June 26th of this year, we opened our doors to one more outstanding achiever. Colton Barrett joined our team this summer as a Team Lead and has created a shocking record of success for himself. Born and raised in Abilene, Texas, Barrett didn’t have to travel too far to end up in our San Antonio office. After high school graduation, Barrett began his studies at Midwestern State University- the first step in creating his career. We sat down with Barrett to discuss exactly how he joined our team, and where he is going from here.
How did you end up in this office?
“I happened upon the job application online while applying to jobs in San Antonio, and I immediately saw myself at this company.”
Do you think you have grown personally and professionally since your first day?
“This experience has given me a ton of insight on what I’m good at and what I am capable of. Also, it has pushed me out of my comfort zone in the best way. I definitely struggle with maintaining a stable level of competitiveness, but I have learned so much about myself and about sales. I have grown as a person and gained some great friends along the way.”
What has been your proudest moment in life or the office?
“Graduating college this past spring and not only deciding that I wanted to move to San Antonio, but making it happen. My proudest moment in the office so far was getting voted leader of the week my very first week after my promotion to team lead.”
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
“I would love to be able to play every instrument.”
if you won the lottery, what would you do with the money?
“Honestly, I would invest the majority of it so that I could take care of my family and close friends.”
At what age did you become an adult?
“I think at the age of seventeen. That is when I had my first job and actually started paying for things myself. That really puts things into perspective for a kid.”
What would you most like to tell yourself at age 13?
“Don’t stop playing sports. Keep that competitive spirit.”
How do you define success?
“I believe success is a state of mind achieved when lifelong goals are met and you are truly happy with your life.”
What is your favorite thing about working in the business industry?
“I get to wear a suit every day!”
Who inspires you?
“My dad. He worked his entire life for everything he has, was never given anything, and taught me that if you want something you have to work for it.”
What business advice would you give to people hoping to start a career?
“I would tell them that hard work pays off and if you want something that’s the only way to achieve it. I would also tell them to not fear getting out of their comfort zone, because that’s how people grow and better themselves.”
It is easy to see why our team here at Southern Sun Consulting loves Colton Barrett so very much, but what you don’t get to see through this article is the effect he has on the people around him. Barrett is a highly encouraging and supportive person, and pushes his team to be better for themselves every day. In his own words, he is motivated by the fact that “everyday there is something new to learn and new memories to make, so why not make some money while you do it?”
